Calvi beach (4 km away, 5 minutes by car)
The nearest beach to the Acquavital residence.
You can either :
- Take advantage of the public beach, with fine sand and a shallow beach ideal for children.
- Take advantage of the private beach with deckchairs
Etablissements "U Pinu", "La Licorne" ... ideal beach for all the family
The Pain de Sucre beach (4 km from the Acquavital residence, towards Lumio)
Small sandy cove ideal for all the family. A top-class beach restaurant ideal for a romantic dinner. Head towards L'Ile Rousse, 500 m after the legion camp, just after the "Leclerc" drive, look for the "pain de sucre" sign on your left, follow the track to the free car park near the beach.
Alga beach (route d'Ajaccio)
Sheltered from the westerly wind, this magnificent little cove lies at the foot of the Revellata peninsula. This small beach is one of the only ones sheltered from the westerly wind, which is very common in the Balagne region. Sometimes a victim of its own success at the height of the season (best visited outside peak season). You can hike around the peninsula. Allow around 4 hours to complete the tour. To get there from Calvi, head towards Ajaccio along the seafront for 4 km after the town. You'll be able to see the peninsula from the road. A small median strip that doubles as a car park on the right of the road will show you the start of the track (google maps link to this car park https://goo.gl/maps/ngCZFqaPnpowRhZp8), then follow the twists and turns below the track, preferring to walk if you don't have a 4x4 as the track is very damaged.
You can take a coastal path to reach the beach, at this very spot: https://goo.gl/maps/n2sd5HbknL54jYqB8
Allow 15 minutes' walk.
Punta Caldanu
Large granite slabs ideal for snorkelling or spearfishing, 10 minutes from the residence. To get there, head towards L'Ile rousse, before the village of Lumio (5km from the residence), turn left at the pharmacy (seaside road). Drive for about 3 km, just after crossing the railway line, turn right for 1 km and then the first road on the right will take you to the old ruined Genoese towe
Ghjorghju beach (Lumio)
Small cove lost in the scrubland 15 minutes from the residence, with crystal-clear water and white sand.
Very little frequented, access a little steep (7 min walk). To appreciate the quality of the water even more, visit between 11am and 3pm. Avoid westerly winds. To get there, head towards L'Ile Rousse, before the village of Lumio (5km from the residence), turn left at the pharmacy (seaside road). Drive for about 3 km, and just after crossing the railway line, turn right onto and continue straight on until the end of the road. Then follow a small track that descends for 500m into the scrubland (a little steep).
Punta Spano (Lumio)
This small cove is well protected from the wind and surrounded by huge granite boulders, giving it a Seychelles feel. You can take a walk around the headland, a magnificent and very wild place. Recommended for the whole family, with some very interesting snorkelling. To get there: head towards L'Ile Rousse for around 15km, then turn left at the Sant Ambrogio marina, then follow the signs for "Le Rocher".
Sant'Ambrogio beach (Lumio)
The second beach, sheltered from the westerly wind, is 3 km after leaving Lumio in the direction of L'Ile Rousse. Look out for the large "Marine de Sant'Ambrogio" sign on your left.
Algajola beach
Deep beach not recommended during windy periods. If you want to see the more "natural" side of the beach, head towards the end of the beach: the Tamaris trees offer pleasant shade for a siesta (if you are not shocked by the naturists who frequent this part of the beach). A very nice little hut at the end of the beach. To get there, head towards Ile Rousse for 17 km, then at the Algajola roundabout, turn left and you're on the beach.
Beaches of Ghjiunchitu / Bodri
Magnificent white sandy beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in Balagne, it is shallow and suitable for all the family. To get there, head towards L'Ile Rousse for around 20 km. After the long straight road to Algajola, watch out for Marine de Davia on the left, with its stone entrance, in a sharp left-hand bend. Then look out for the "Junquidou" sign on the left, and follow the track as far as the straw hut... I'd recommend the snack bar side.
Saleccia beach
A must-see mythical Corsican beach with a shuttle boat, Le Popeye, departing from Saint Florent.
